OP-1 Tutorial: Making a Remix - Part One

YouTube Videos matching query: teenage engineering op-1 27 Jan 2012, 8:48 pm CET

In this video I present an overview of how to import external samples into the OP-1 through the computer interface and Drum Kit creation app. Those samples are also shown to be manipulated and a rough arrangement is created with notes about using the OP-1 for remixing songs. Examples of the following are shown: - Importing Samples - Connecting the OP-1 to a computer - Managing drum kits - Editing drum kit sounds - Creating Pattern and Endless mode Sequences - Sequencing to tape "on time" - Setting tape loop points - Tape Navigation - Using OP-1 Effects - Assigning LFO to control Effects - Lift and Drop techniques and more... I hope you enjoy another video in my tutorial series. Remember, these videos are only examples of how I am using the OP-1. They are intended to be helpful to those new to the machine, considering buying the machine, and to the user community as a possibly different method of production using this wide-ranging machine. If you'd like to see a specific OP-1 video or topic answered here, please send me a message and I'll do my best to help you out. Thanks for watching another one of my videos. naturalrhythmmusic dot com ohpeewon dot com (unnpfocial OP-1 forum) teenageengineering dot com (buy one, you know you want to)

The Horrorist Immortalized

wire to the ear 27 Jan 2012, 8:41 pm CET

I’ve been creating some music with Tom Carpenter. He’s the man behind the wonderful Analogue Solutions synths and modules. He did an unexpected “nice” for me and printed my alias The Horrorist on his upcoming Spring Reverb modules. So I guess I broke some new here… yeah AS has a new Spring Reverb module coming up. If you follow Tom on Facebook you can also see his new very nice looking Telemark Keyboard. The first song we recorded is called “Forever for You” although we could change it to Cold Wave.. what do you think Tom? My friend Gabri is also doing a mix and there will be some other tracks. Samples coming soon…

“Your name is imortalised on the new spring reverb circuit board. hopefully it will be released in a few months!” – Tom Carpenter

An Interview with Bowyer [Theory, iPad, Interview]

CreativeApplications.Net » iPad 27 Jan 2012, 3:58 pm CET

Bowyer is a new company by Vadik Marmeladov, Sergey Filippov, a man known as “The Client”, and Ilya Kolganov. In this interview we talk through their first collaborations, philosophy, process, commercial projects, and future plans.

“Craftmanship is attention to details. Luxury is attention to unnecessary details.”

Typical phone games and apps retain a certain average appearance with a target on mass-market appeal. Design is usually not a priority, and as a result, often mediocre. Unlike the fashion industry, for instance, app development is young enough that nichés have not yet developed fully. Seeing this gap in the industry, Bowyer wished to target luxury markets.

“About 2 years ago while working on a commercial website we came up with a simple app for a luxury brand,” Vadik explained. The screen would be completely black, and through in-app purchases, individual diamonds could be bought and populated on the screen. The concept would be a reflection of physical diamonds: holding no real value other than the inherent scarcity and cost of ownership.

"Redlight", New OP-1 Track

YouTube Videos matching query: teenage engineering op-1 27 Jan 2012, 7:27 am CET

A new OP-1 track I've just finished. Like my others, it's a little rough round the edges but I'm still getting to grips with this wonderful synth. It was only after completing this track that I realised it sounds a bit like "UFO's Over Leytonstone" by Squarepusher (albeit nowhere near as good..) so I included a sample from the Rendlesham Forest incident to continue the UFO theme..

[Currently] Free App converts live vocals and instruments to MIDI

iOS Musician 27 Jan 2012, 4:05 am CET

Audio Midi Connect will be free for another week or so, after that it goes up to $4.99. It's designed for both iPhone and iPad. App Store Description: Capture the notes from live vocals or instruments such as guitar, bass, or trumpet, and transcribe songs without taking your hands off of the instrument. The musical pitch of the live instruments are detected by the app, and translated into MIDI notes for applications such as Garage Band, Logic, or Pro Tools. The app supports both Apple Core MIDI, and the DSMIDIWifi standard, making it easy to connect to Mac OSX, Windows, and Linux. The pitch detection is fast enough to capture playing at moderate speeds in real time. For faster melodies, you can record the audio with the app, and then convert to MIDI notes later. You can also play slowly, and then adjust the speed of the MIDI playback with your sequencer. The app detects a single pitch at a time. For anyone developing a sense of pitch, the app also provides a visual cue to the note being played -- the display is large and clear, making it easy to see when your device is sitting on a music stand. SID Machine

wire to the ear 26 Jan 2012, 4:29 pm CET

Here’s an upcoming box from Mode Machines called SID. Apparently there’s some controversy over it’s design (link). Chris Randall took the photo above at NAMM. It should go for about $600 USD.

“SID is an 8-Bit desktop synthesizer with a double personality. It’s simplistic layout and ease of use delivers pleasure at the first touch and it’s familiar step sequencer will have you programming patterns and beats in no time. 3 expression knobs control the key features of each Patch for instant results. But don’t let it’s simplicity fool you: The supplied SID STUDIO SOFTWARE enables you to tweak every parameter under the hood! Draw and design your patches with instant feedback from the SID. Also check out the NERD-PANEL, a powerful interactive blueprint which enables you to address the chip one pin at a time – also a great educational tool.” – modemachines.com

Official Joy Division Micky Mouse Shirt

wire to the ear 26 Jan 2012, 4:17 pm CET

Disney was selling a Micky Mouse T-Shirt based on Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures album. Could it be some hip/depressed designer working there snuck this into the supply chain? It’s been pulled and therefore I must say these are instant collectibles. They may even fetch some big money on eBay.

“And in even odder news, the Disney Store… was, until today, selling a new t-shirt design based on the iconic Joy Division “Unknown Pleasures” album cover, with Mickey Mouse’s face inserted in those wavy lines. From Manchester to Mousechester!” – Boing Boing
